Last updated:

These Habtam Bet football betting rules explain how football bets may be settled for pre-match and live events. They are designed to help players in Ethiopia understand the difference between 90 minutes, added time, extra time and penalty shootouts before placing a bet. Always check the market name, the time period shown and any special conditions in your bet slip. Where a specific market rule differs from this general guide, the conditions displayed for that market apply.

Habtam Bet aims to settle football bets according to published market rules and official event data. For full contractual rules, including settlement procedures and corrections, please review the applicable Terms and Conditions.

Football betting rules at Habtam Bet

Football bet settlement depends on the market selected, not only on the final outcome of a match. A team may progress in a cup competition after extra time or penalties, while a standard Match Result bet can still be settled using the score after normal time only.

Before confirming a bet, check whether the market refers to:

  • 90 minutes / full time: normal playing time plus referee-added stoppage time;
  • Including extra time: normal time and extra time;
  • To Qualify: the team that progresses to the next stage;
  • Outright or trophy winner: the team that wins the competition or specified stage.

Standard settlement time: 90 minutes

Most football markets are settled on 90 minutes of play plus stoppage time added by the referee. Stoppage time, also called added time or injury time, is part of normal time. It is not the same as extra time.

Unless the market clearly says otherwise, extra time and a penalty shootout are not included in 90 minutes football betting. This commonly applies to the following markets:

  • Match Result / 1X2;
  • Double Chance;
  • Total Goals, such as Over/Under;
  • Handicap markets;
  • Both Teams to Score;
  • many first-half and second-half markets.

For example, if the score is 1–1 at the end of normal time and Team A scores in extra time, a 1X2 bet on Team A does not win where the market is settled on 90 minutes. The normal-time result remains a draw.

When extra time counts

Extra time football betting applies only where the market name or market rules state that extra time is included. Look for wording such as “including extra time”, “to qualify”, “winner of tie”, “team to lift the trophy” or “outright winner”.

A To Qualify market is different from a normal Match Result market. It concerns the team that advances, which may be determined after extra time or a penalty shootout if the relevant market conditions say so. Similarly, an outright winner market may be based on the official winner of a tournament, round or tie.

Do not assume that every cup match market includes extra time. Check the bet slip and the individual market description before placing a bet.

How penalties are settled

A penalty awarded during normal time or extra time is a match event. If it is scored, it may count toward goals markets when that market includes the relevant period of play.

A penalty shootout is different. It takes place after the match remains level following the required playing time. Shootout kicks usually do not count as match goals for standard totals, 1X2, handicap or Both Teams to Score markets settled on 90 minutes. They may be relevant to qualification, tie winner, trophy and other markets that specifically include a shootout outcome.

  • A penalty scored in the 70th minute can count as a normal match goal.
  • A shootout kick after extra time is not normally added to the match score for 90-minute totals.
  • A shootout winner may settle a “To Qualify” market where the market rules include penalties.

Cancelled, postponed and abandoned matches

A cancelled football match bet, postponed football match betting market or abandoned fixture may be settled differently depending on the market, competition and applicable Habtam Bet rules. The official event status and the time allowed for completion are important.

  • Cancelled before kick-off: if the match does not take place, affected bets may be void and the stake refunded, unless specific market rules provide otherwise.
  • Postponed before kick-off: a bet may remain open if the event is played within the period set out in the relevant rules. If it is not played within that period, it may be void.
  • Abandoned after kick-off: markets whose outcome was already unconditionally determined before abandonment may be settled where permitted by the market rules. Other affected markets may be void.
  • Match completed later: settlement may use the official completed result if the fixture resumes or is replayed within the applicable timeframe.
  • Official result changed: result corrections are handled under the applicable Habtam Bet rules and official data procedures.

Do not rely on unofficial social-media reports, early score updates or a later replay as confirmation of settlement. If an event is listed with an incorrect team, date, competition or market description, Habtam Bet may correct or void affected bets in line with its published rules.

Live football betting settlement

Live football betting rules require particular care because match conditions can change in seconds. Odds may move, markets may be suspended and a submitted bet may be held for review before it is accepted. Follow football events through Habtam Bet live, but always verify the market and odds shown in your bet slip.

A goal, red card, penalty, VAR review, dangerous attack, injury interruption or other significant event can cause a market to be temporarily suspended. During this period, a live bet may be accepted at updated odds, rejected, or remain pending until the event is confirmed. A submission screen or loading message does not by itself mean that a bet has been accepted.

Live markets are settled using confirmed official event data and the relevant market rules. The displayed match clock, score or statistics are provided for information and may be delayed or corrected.

Odds changes and bet confirmation

A football odds change can happen before a pre-match bet is accepted and very quickly during live betting. The odds are final only when the bet is confirmed as accepted in the bet slip or betting history.

If the odds change before acceptance, the system may offer a new price or reject the bet. Check the selected outcome, stake, odds and potential return shown in the bet slip before confirming. This is especially important when betting during a fast live event.

Do not assume that a market displayed on screen is still available at the same odds. Availability, limits and acceptance can depend on current event information and platform controls.

VAR, official data and result corrections

VAR can lead to a goal being awarded, cancelled or reviewed after the ball enters the net. It can also affect penalties, red cards and other match incidents. Habtam Bet may suspend relevant markets while a decision is under review or while official data is being verified.

Football bet settlement is based on confirmed official results and statistics used under the applicable rules. If an official source corrects a result, statistic or disciplinary event after initial settlement, Habtam Bet may review the affected market in accordance with the published contractual rules.

Player, cards and corners markets

Player markets, cards and corners can have conditions that differ from standard match-result markets. Check the specific market rules before placing a bet.

  • Player markets: availability, starting status and appearance requirements may affect settlement. A market may be void if a player does not take part, where the relevant rules provide for this.
  • Goalscorer markets: own goals are generally not treated as goals scored by the selected player unless the market rules state otherwise.
  • Cards markets: the rules may specify whether only cards to players on the field count, or whether cards to substitutes, coaches or team staff are included.
  • Corners markets: settlement is based on officially awarded corners under the relevant market conditions. Not every attack or deflection results in an official corner.

Examples of football bet settlement

Scenario: A match is 1–1 after 90 minutes. Team A wins 2–1 after extra time. A 1X2 bet was placed on Team A.
Settlement: The bet loses if the market was for 90 minutes, because normal time ended as a draw.
Scenario: A match is 0–0 after normal time and Team B wins a penalty shootout. A Total Goals Over 0.5 bet was placed for 90 minutes.
Settlement: The bet loses because shootout kicks do not normally count as match goals in a 90-minute totals market.
Scenario: A fixture is cancelled before kick-off.
Settlement: The affected bet may be void with the stake returned, subject to the applicable market and cancellation rules.
Scenario: A live bet is submitted while VAR is checking a possible goal.
Settlement: The market may be suspended. The bet may be accepted at updated odds, rejected or kept pending until confirmation.
Scenario: A bet is placed on Team A “To Qualify”.
Settlement: Extra time and a penalty shootout may count if the market conditions state that qualification is determined by the official tie outcome.

Responsible football betting

Football betting should be entertainment, not a way to earn income or recover losses. Set a budget, consider using limits or breaks, and do not bet more than you can afford to lose. Visit Responsible Gaming support and tools for information about limits, pauses and self-exclusion. Betting is for eligible adults only; see the Age Restriction Policy for age-related requirements.
